Botanical Wonderland
The gardens at Cornerstone are an ever-changing botanical wonderland, showcasing innovative designs from international and local landscape architects and designers. The gardens were originally inspired by the International Garden Festival at Chaumont-Sur-Loire to create a cultural and creative haven, celebrating the connection between art, architecture, and nature.

Creating dancing Shivas has been a favorite theme throughout my career. When I was 24 years old, I traveled in India, primarily in the south, where I was able to view original stone carvings in the museums. Enamored by these elegant figures depicting aspects of God, I built my first version in 1989. It sold, and so I was encouraged to make more. At present, I count seven versions, all of which have been collected.
Nataraja 2024 is actually a piece made in 2012, then sold to my friend, Linda Webster, and subsequently willed to me upon her death. Once it was again in my possession, I reworked it into what you see today. To date, it is the most refined of all my versions and my favorite. Artistic license freed me to add multiple faces and creatures, mixing together into a hallucinogenic whole.

After attending Burningman for the first time in 2005, I was inspired to make a sculpture for the event the following year. I devoted a couple of hundred hours putting something together using odds-and-ends from around the studio. A large redwood root became the left eye of a dragonlike being and the form swelled from there into a viperlike head. Practicality limited the size of what I could haul on my single axle trailer, and so a roughly 7’x13′ creature emerged from my studio; more than a little strange or “bent”, it was appropriate for the wild festival in the desert. Promoters of Burningman saw my work for the first time and encouraged me to apply for an Honorarium Grant in the future. Thus began a decade-long dedication to making monumental, powerful sculptures for the event and getting paid in the process.
Sirbent was a seminal work. It has remained in my private collection since its inception, but has been shown in the North Bay from San Francisco to Cloverdale at various events. The patina that has developed over that time is unique and intentionally allowed to age and deepen.
THISTLE

This piece is titled Thistle. It is a reworking of a section of a piece I made in 2011 for Burningman. The original was a fire caldron standing 20′ tall, and this was the top ⅓ of that vessel. Because of fire danger, and the unlikelyhood of ever burning in it again, I decided to repurpose this into a plantlike sculpture – modifying the structure and adding decorative elements. Made of steel and stainless steel, I see this sculpture being used as an indestructible, lighted, landscaping element. Symmetrical and balanced in form, it has a simple elegance.
